Resumo: This article results from an investigation on the teachers’ identity contemporaneously in children’s conception. We take in consideration the image shattering this professionals have been having within their work field, through the much diverse social transformations that have occurred in the last decades and the new relationships established with the student body. We reflect upon some of the teachers’ representations derived from scientific researches and also those expressed through the children’s narratives. We attributed political and cultural sense to the images the children picked up on their teachers and their social role. This way, we consider them social, cultural and rightful beings; social beings that are producers of culture. In the relationship between teachers and students we noticed – stressing out the few exceptions – a dialogue that remains closed to the multiple formative possibilities. Having the qualitative research as our investigation basis, we present the teachers’ identity(ies) and some of their problematic, which enable reflection upon the need for the ressignification of the teachers’ identity contemporaneously.

Leva-se em consideração a quebra de imagens que esse profissional vem tendo em seu próprio campo de trabalho, por meio das diversas transformações sociais ocorridas nas últimas décadas e das novas relações estabelecidas com os discentes. Refletimos sobre algumas das representações docentes advindas de pesquisas científicas e também aquelas expressas através das narrativas das crianças. Atribuímos um sentido político e cultural às imagens captadas pelas crianças sobre o professor e seu papel social. Nesse sentido, as consideramos sujeitos sociais, culturais, e de direitos; seres sociais produtores de cultura. Na relação entre professores e alunos percebemos – salientando as poucas exceções – um diálogo que permanece fechado às múltiplas possibilidades formativas.
