Repressão e censura nas bibliotecas universitárias brasileiras : efeitos do index da ditadura militar nos acervos do atual SIBIUFS

The present paper has the subject of repression and censorship in the Brazilian university libraries. In addition to the survey of the theoretical and historical reference, field research was elaborated by checking the effects of the military dictatorship INDEX on the Libraries' collections, second term coined by Carneiro (2002). On the basis of this study, he analyzed the intervention used by the military Regime in the libraries of higher education institutions, emphasizing its current effects on the Library System of the Federal University of Sergipe (SIBIUFS). It was thus sought to highlight the political practice of a repressive apparatus created to destructure the social movements of students, teachers and employees within this educational institution, besides showing us that the military had a Constant need to restrict access to intellectual knowledge, since the written word has the power to propagate ideas. The overall objective was accomplished by the search successfully, verifying that only one third of the books selected from the INDEX created by Carneiro (2002) of non-fiction was incorporated or reincorporated into the SIBIUFS's collection. The verification that the managers of the libraries and authorities linked to their use, as teachers and researchers, were obliged to take the science of confidential documents of censorship of books, brings the proof of the libraries University students were considered important information units in the period of 1968-1978. Also, research into primary documents, secondary sources, theses and dissertations reinforces the realization that there have been several cases of censorship and informational repression during the military Regime. According to analysis of field surveys, we verified that the verified evidence of securities had only about one third reincorporated into the SIBIUFS acquis, based on the observation in the informational environment, reinforcing the analysis. In other words, the indelible effect of censorship in the dissemination of information. In conclusion, we found that censorship was an instrument of social control, mainly through the concealment of specialized information and specific to certain segments, which led to the weakening of discordant social movements in Several levels. In this context, the SIBIUFS suffered the impact of censorship and still feels the effects of it, past four decades of political openness in Brazil. For the future, it is recommended to increase the development policy of SIBIUFS collections and the involvement of the company of UFS in special projects, in order to create mechanisms to enable the access of these censored works to their users, because Traditional forms of selection, acquisition and donation are not sufficient or adequate to create reader opportunities at an appropriate level
