A competência em informação na universidade : um estudo com graduandos de biblioteconomia e documentação da Universidade Federal de Sergipe

Information Literacy (IL) is a research topic that has been gaining a lot of space and importance within the areas of Library and Information Science. Essential for the development of society, within the brazilian socioeducational context, IL is very absent in basic levels of education, especially in public schools, which can directly influence the training of students in the university environment. Within this perspective, this research presents as a general objective: to analyze the informational competence of the graduates of the Librarianship and Documentation course at the Universidade Federal de Sergipe (UFS). Specific objectives are: to identify the profile of IL, of the students graduating and to present the contributions of IL in the formation of the students. Regarding the methodological aspects, it is characterized as an exploratory-descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, having as a data collection instrument a questionnaire with closed questions, in which it was applied to a sample of twenty-eight students concluding the above-mentioned course. As results, it was found that the students have a mixed gender profile, the majority coming from public schools. As for the search for information, one can indicate a frequent contact of the respondents with information and communication technologies, since all the students claimed to have access to the Internet. Regarding use, most students are careful about sharing information, among other aspects of the information competence of the students that were found. It is concluded that the analysis of the informational competence of the students can represent an important contribution to the UFS Librarianship and Documentation course, drawing attention to the importance of the constant elaboration of practices directed to the development of IL, a work that can be done among teachers and information professionals of the university. It is expected that the screen research will contribute significantly to the area of Information Science, - especially the line of research Information and Society - and that it will give rise to other discussions on the subject.
