The objective of this article was to correlate the deposit data and trademark records related to the 10 largest municipalities of the state of Alagoas/Brazil with the data of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of these municipalities. In order to do so, it was based on the assumption of the economic importance of the trademark for both companies and society and the hypothesis of the number of deposits and registrations granted by the National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI) is directly related to the economic development of the municipalities studied, respectively: Maceió, Arapiraca, Marechal Deodoro, São Miguel dos Campos, Coruripe, Palmeira dos Índios, Pilar, Rio Largo, Penedo, União dos Palmares. From a correlation matrix that related data of the GDP of the studied localities with the historical series of the variations of the number of deposits and registrations of the mark in the INPI, between the years of 2002 and 2012 it was possible to verify the positive correlation between the data what Made it possible to consider the importance of trademarks related to the economic development of these municipalities. The results obtained allowed us to conclude that the evolution of the deposit and registration data of these municipalities present a very strong statistical correlation (0.99) with the economic development (GDP) of these localities in the state of Alagoas.
