Resumo: The use of organic residues as organic fertilizers or as substrates for the production of seedlings is a sustainable alternative, since the use makes up for the lack of nutrients and, mainly, contributes to the addition of organic matter to the soil. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the morphological characteristics of commercial pepper seedlings (biquinho pepper, sweet pepper and chili pepper) produced in different types of substrates. For this, we used a randomized block experimental design, in a factorial scheme of 3x4, with three levels in the cultivar factor and four levels in the substrate factor (bovine manure, earthworm humus, organic compost in the proportion of of the substrate and the local soil, in addition to the control, without addition of organic substrate). Initially, emergence and emergence speed index were measured, and at 45 the variables height of seedlings, stem diameter and number of leaves were quantified. The only variable that showed a significant interaction at 5% was emergence; the other variables were analyzed separately with the substrate source and the pepper seedlings, but a significant effect was only verified between the substrate sources. The chickpea with earthworm humus had the best performance in the vegetative development of the cultivar. However, when evaluating the substrates with the variables number of leaves and height of seedlings, all substrates used contributed to the formation of pepper seedlings, except for the control. However, the substrate that showed better efficiency in the production of pepper seedlings, especially for the emergence speed index and emergence.

Assim, objetivou-se avaliar as características morfológicas de mudas de pimentas comerciais (pimenta-biquinho, pimenta-decheiro e pimenta-malagueta) produzidas em diferentes tipos de substratos. Para isso, utilizou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial de 3x4, com três níveis no fator cultivar e quatro níveis no fator substrato (esterco bovino, húmus de minhoca, composto orgânico na proporção de do substrato e do solo do local, além da testemunha, sem adição de substrato orgânico). Inicialmente, foram mensurados a emergência e o índice de velocidade de emergência, e aos 45 quantificadas as variáveis altura das mudas, diâmetro do caule e número de folhas. A única variável que apresentou interação significativa a 5% foi a emergência; as demais variáveis foram analisadas isoladamente com a fonte de substrato e as plântulas de pimentas, porem só foi verificado efeito significativo entre as fontes de substratos. A pimenta-biquinho com húmus de minhoca obteve maior desempenho no desenvolvimento vegetativo da cultivar. Porém, ao avaliar os substratos com as variáveis número de folhas e altura das mudas, todos os substratos utilizados contribuíram para formação de mudas de pimenta, com exceção da testemunha.
