In real market structures, competition between companies makes the price a decisive attribute value. Thus, organizations need to expend efforts on cost reduction. Model Toyota production arises, then, as a management model focused on quality and process flexibility, increased capacity to produce and compete in this global scenario. Within this model, there is the Just in Time system as a method for planning and control of operations in industrial areas, which by some modifications can be used in service operations. This article seeks to analyze the applicability of Just in Time for a provider of mechanical services, located in Minas Gerais. As a result, it was observed that the production of waste are present at all stages of the production process of the study workshop, and the elimination of these causes in a large cost reduction potential. This and other observed characteristics make the principles raised by the JIT valid tools to be applied also in the service sector. However, the results can only be observed if no effective involvement of the entire staff, creating an organizational culture geared to continuous improvement.
