This article is part of a larger research project entitled "Literacy, Training, and Organization of Pedagogical Work: Interlacing Challenges and Possibilities in the Cycle", linked to the Carolina Maria de Jesus Center: research and extension in Popular Education, Agroecology, and Literacy of the Working Class, of the Teacher Training Center (TTC), of the Federal University of the Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB) and aims to understand, from the teachers' point of view, the challenges and possibilities of literacy and initial reading instruction at the end of the cycle. In the methodological field, the research is based on action research, with a qualitative approach, using participant observation, document analysis, and interviews as data production devices. The results point to the need for the school to guarantee a space for continued education, based on the demands presented by the teachers, and to offer adequate conditions for the literacy and initial reading instruction process to be consolidated by the end of the cycle.
