Resumo: Yasujiro Ozu and Shohei Imamura are two pillars of Japanese cinema and between them there was a conflict, towards different points of view in the representation of reality. Imamura didn’t waste his chances to talk about his differences with the master in a good share of interviews that he granted, once calling the veteran’s work “post card movies”. Then, to make such conflict evident a historical and comparative research to list the aspects in that the two moviemakers diverge and if perhaps there wouldn’t be a convergence. Why was Shohei Imamura so vocal about his critics on Ozu, the rejection of his generation of moviemakers to their masters.

Imamura não perdia a chance de falar sobre suas diferenças com o mestre Ozu em boa parte das entrevistas que concedeu, certa vez até chamando a obra do veterano de “filmes cartões postais”. Desse modo, para evidenciar tal conflito, foi realizada uma pesquisa histórica e comparativa dos diretores, uma busca por um conjunto de críticas, entrevistas e análises dos filmes para elencar os aspectos em que os dois cineastas diferem e convergem.
