The lack of access to decent housing for the population in Brazilian society is one of the expressions of the Social Question experienced in the professional daily life of the social worker. The social service professional, as well as other social workers involved, plays a fundamental role in the National Rural Housing Program (PNHR), since it is not only a housing program, but a social housing program, Which seeks not only to offer decent housing to the beneficiaries, but also to guarantee the right to decent housing and its insertion in the labor market. The research allows us to reflect on the advancement of social service and its insertion in the scope of the defense of the right to housing. Thus, the present research had as objective to know the professional actions of the Social Worker developed in the PNHR in Sergipe. It is an exploratory-descriptive research of the qualitative and quantitative type that has as a methodological principle the case study, since it made possible to understand the specificity of the PNHR. In the investigative process, bibliographical and field research were used. The preferred instrument for access to respondents was the semi-structured interview with the social workers who work with the program. There were 12 interviewees in total, 9 women and 3 men. The results show that there has been progress in recent years with regard to the rural program in Sergipe, but much more needs to be done to solve the housing deficit and especially to end subnormal housing in Sergipe. The need for improvements in relation to the development and implementation of the national rural housing program has also been demonstrated. In spite of some progress, it is still necessary to go a long way for housing policy to contemplate a larger number of families in Sergipe, since the problem of housing deficit is really serious and politics is fragmented. That is, the social worker coexists with one of the greatest challenges present in his everyday life is to develop and improve his ability to interpret social reality.
