Resumo: Introduction: Down syndrome is a genetic anomaly caused by the presence of an extra chromosome in pair 21, which gives the individual specific characteristics such as generalized hypotonia, flat face, oblique palpebral fissures, distant eyes, epicanto, communication difficulties, changes of stomatognathic functions and short-term memory problems. All these factors interfere in the cognitive development (language and speech), since they are children less responsive to verbal stimulation. Objective: To elaborate and describe the effectiveness of a language intervention program for a child with Down syndrome. Method: The study is about a qualitative clinical model that gives the research descriptive and interpretative characteristics, done through the analysis of the twelve sessions daily reports. The subject of the research has 8 years has medical diagnosis of Down Syndrome and speech language pathological diagnosis. The procedures performed were initial interview with parents / guardians, evaluation of the child through the ABFW protocol. In the execution of the therapeutic program elaborated, the method adopted in the consultations was direct intervention. Results: There was no difference in the pre and post intervention results regarding the occurrences of the phonological processes, however, there was an improvement in the production of the phonemes worked alone, as well as the improvement in speech intelligibility. Conclusion: Speech-language stimulation contributed to the development of the participant's language with Down's syndrome. It is possible to observe from this study the positive impacts, as well as the greatest difficulties encountered during the application of the intervention program.
