Observing the current scenario, there is a growth in the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder - ASD, seen as a neurodevelopmental disorder, which presents manifestations that vary in each case. Alternative Communication aims to help communication of those who have a limitation or absence of it. The objective of this work is to analyze, through a narrative review research, the use of alternative communication in subjects with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The studies available in the databases - Scielo, PubMed and Lilacs, which matched the inclusion criteria were used and subsequently their analysis was carried out. 27 articles were selected and of these only 09 makes up this work. The PECS system was the most adopted, and as for the methodology, the cohort study was used. It was observed that there is a shortage in the production of scientific studies in the field of speech therapy, as it is a broad and complex topic.
