Perfil dos casos de intoxicação por medicamentos no estado de Sergipe

Objectives: Evaluate the characteristics of cases of drug intoxication reported by the Center of Toxicological Information and Assistance of Sergipe (CIATOX-SE), from 2008 at 2012. Methods: We evaluated the annual information for notifications of poisoning by drugs obtained through the database CIATOX-SE, checking the year of the accident, the victim's sex, age groups, the circumstances of the accident, the zone the occurrence and outcome of cases, being conducted through an analysis temporal linear trends. Results: There were 3813 cases accounted for 16% of all cases reported to the toxicological CIATOX in Sergipe. Poisoning occurred females, with 58% of cases in the age group between 15 and 49 years (62%). More prevalent in the urban area, the circumstances were more involved therapeutic use, with 60%, and suicide attempt with 23% of poisoning, which 99.8% resulted in cure. Conclusions: There was some peculiar patterns related to drug intoxication in the State of Sergipe that may be related to cultural characteristics of the population. However, these accidents are preventable and are therefore necessary preventive and educational measures to occur a reduction of these episodes.
