Resumo: Introduction: Breast cancer is considered the second type of cancer with a high mortality rate among women. Mammography is considered the gold standard for early detection of the disease and breast biopsies are responsible for the definitive diagnosis of this neoplasm. Compression of the breast tissue during the mammographic examination and the insertion of a needle to remove the material for cyto/histopathological analysis generate pain, which may contribute to women's non-adherence to the screening and diagnosis of breast cancer. Objectives: to map non-pharmacological therapies used in the literature to relieve pain in women undergoing breast cancer screening and diagnosis, and to search for nonpharmacological methods used in pain management during mammography. Method: This is a scope review, which followed all the recommendations of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) in line with the recommendations provided by the Joanna Briggs Institute for the first objective , and an integrative review to answer the second objective. Results: The scope review obtained a final sample of twelve studies and the non-pharmacological methods used were music therapy, meditation, hypnosis, physical exercise, nursing interventions and therapeutic touch. It was observed that music therapy, physical exercises and nursing interventions were used to reduce pain during mammography, and the other methods found were tested in the puncture. The integrative review included four studies that showed different pain relief methods such as the use of a pillow and changes in the compression protocol, as well as intervention with music. Conclusion: it was shown that non-pharmacological methods used to relieve pain during screening and diagnosis of breast cancer are effective and can contribute to changes in care protocols as they are an easily accessible, low-cost, creative, safe and that provides benefits to women.
