Resumo: Objective: To analyze the relationship between sex, age, socioeconomic data and risk factors for Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in a population sample from the interior of the Brazilian Northeast. Methods: A cross-sectional population-based study conducted through an interview, held in Lagarto-SE, with 200 patients, aged between 18 and 65 years users of the Unified Health System (SUS). Results: A total of 200 patients were interviewed, aged between 19 and 65 years, of which 136 were female (68%) and 64 were male (38%). The mean age was 39.54 years (± 12.67 years). The majority of the interviewed (32%), occupy the age group of 30 to 39 years. 69% (n 138) live in urban areas and 59% (n 118) declared themselves to be brown. The frequency of NCDs was 27.5% (n 55); among these subjects, hypertension was the most prevalent disease 19.5% (n 39), followed by Diabetes Mellitus 9.5% (n 19), Cardiovascular Diseases 5% (n 10), stroke (vascular accident) 1.5% (n 3) and neoplasias 1% (n 2). Conclusion: In the present study, NCDs were more prevalent among individuals aged 40-49 years, progressively increasing after age 50. Regarding the prevalence of NCDs and its relation with risk factors, a positive association with alcohol abuse, obesity and visceral fat was observed.
