AESTHETIC EXPERIMENTALISM IN THE NOVEL BY JORGE DE LIMA: FROM THE LEGACY OF THE GENERATION OF 22’S FAMILY TO THE NOVEL OF 30’S FAMILY

This paper aims to make a brief analysis of Jorge de Lima fiction and his relationship with some aspects of Modernism, especially those that demonstrate the avant-garde atmosphere of this movement. Best known for his poetry, the author built a very interesting narrative microcosm due to the connection established among the works, in which he adopts creation procedures that strongly reflect the revolutionary character that marks the first modernista wave. Thus, we trace a trajectory through his novels, observing mainly how the points of contact between his fiction and the avant-garde aestheticism, such as Surrealism, are delineated through works like Salomão e as mulheres (1927) and O anjo (1934). Evidently, when we look at the author fictional side, we cannot fail to observe how he moves from the innovative aura of the Heroic Phase to a certain traditionalism that consolidates with the Regionalism of the 1930s, as we can see in Calunga (1934) and returns to experimentalism with A mulher obscura (1939). To develop this discussion, we will resort to the studies of Teles (1972), Cavalcanti (1993), Lafetá (2000), Cereja (2002), and Castello (2004).
