Resumo: | This article aims to present and discuss the results obtained through the investigation of generic expressions (determining phrases - DPs - without definition or specificity, as proposed by Cerqueira (2019a, 2019b)), in Brazilian Portuguese, with a focus on the community of practice LGBTQIA+. To do so, we place ourselves in the theoretical framework of third wave sociolinguistics (ECKERT, 2000 and later), as we understand such linguistic practices as elements of the identity of their speakers (CARVALHO, 2017a). Thus, we rely on the generativist literature (LYONS, 1987; MÜLLER, 2002; CERQUEIRA, MARIANO, 2020) for the selection of linguistic variants, namely, syntactic position of DP, type of DP, lexical-syntactic features (definitity, specificity, animacy, human, singular, masculine) and gender of the referent. After qualitative treatment, resulting from the collection of data in Twitter digital support of the textual genre tweet, we verified that the generic expressions can occur in different syntactic positions, apparently, being favored in the position of subject and vocative. They also occur with different types of PD, and may be favored with a bare name. Furthermore, the lexical item gay allows both masculine and feminine grammatical gender agreement. |

They also occur with different types of PD, and may be favored with a bare name.
