LAS FORMAS DE TRATAMIENTO EN EL ESPAÑOL PANAMEÑO: LA VIGENCIA DEL “USTEDEO”: THE FORMS OF TREATMENT IN PANAMA SPANISH: THE CURRENCY OF THE “USTEDEO”

RESUMEN: La investigación tuvo como objetivo el estudio sociovariacional del español panameño, con enfoque en la influencia de parámetros sociales en la elección de las formas de tratamiento (tu x usted), con base en los estudios de Blas Arroyo (2012). Más allá de eso, profundizamos la investigación fijándonos en la problemática del continuum lingüístico sugerida por Quesada (2013), y con base en el estudio de Aleza Izquierdo y Enguita Utrilla (2010) sobre la lengua hispanoamericana. Para eso, fue recogido corpus lingüístico actual de Panamá, con la finalidad de verificar la vigencia del ustedeo y sus contextos de uso. Como resultados, se observó que los panameños, en ciudades periféricas, utilizan el ustedeo con mayor frecuencia que en la capital, aunque, en esta, las dos formas coexistan. De esta manera, se constató, contrariamente a la hipótesis de Quesada (2013), que el uso del tuteo, en el centro, no representa una interrupción total del continuum del ustedeo. Sociolingüística.   ABSTR ACT: The objective of the research was to study the socio-political aspects of Panamanian Spanish, with a focus on the influence of social parameters on the choice of treatment methods (tu x you), based on Blas Arroyo (2012) studies. Beyond that, we deepen our research by looking at the problematic of the linguistic continuum suggested by Quesada (2013), and based on the study of Aleza Izquierdo y Enguita Utrilla (2010) about the Spanish-American language. For that, it was collected current linguistic corpus of Panama, with the purpose of verifying the validity of the ustedeo and the contexts of use. As a result, it was observed that Panamanians, in peripheral cities, use the script more frequently than in the capital, although, in this case, the two forms coexist. Thus, contrary to the Quesada (2013) hypothesis, the use of tuteo, in the center, does not represent a total interruption of the continuum of the ustedeo. KEYWORDS: Panama. Pronouns of treatment.
