RESUMO: No conto “Metamorfose”, presente em A cor da ternura, de Geni Guimarães, a protagonista vive em um ambiente escolar marcadamente racista capaz de modificar seus comportamentos. Neste sentido, a personagem, ainda criança, passa pelos processos de autonegação, consciência de si, autoafirmação e empoderamento social como consequência do contato com o meio social discriminador no qual está inserida. O presente artigo tem como objetivo examinar as consequências do discurso racista na construção identitária da protagonista de “Metamorfose”, de Geni Guimarães. Como aporte teórico, serão utilizados os trabalhos de Hall (2015), Mbembe (2014), Glissant (2005), Fanon (2008), Carneiro (2011). Conclui-se que a construção da identidade da personagem é fortemente marcada pelo discurso social pautado na discriminação contra o sujeito negro. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Literatura brasileira. Identidade.   ABSTRACT: In the short story "Metamorfose", present in the collection A cor da ternura, by Geni Guimarães, the protagonist lives in a markedly racist school environment capable of modifying her behavior. Thus, the character, as a child, goes through the processes of self-denial, self-awareness, self-assertion, and social empowerment as a consequence of the contact with the discriminating social environment in which she is inserted. This article aims at examining the consequences of the racist discourse in the identity construction of the protagonist of "Metamorfose", by Geni Guimarães. As a theoretical contribution, the works of Hall (2015), Mbembe (2014), Glissant (2005), Fanon (2008), and Carneiro (2011) will be used. We conclude that the construction of the protagonist’s identity is strongly marked by the social discourse based on the discrimination against the Black subjects. KEYWORDS: Brazilian literature.
