Resumo: Endocrine cells of the  gastroenteropancretic  neuroendocrine system play diverse functions in the physiology of digestion. Although studies with these cellular types in native fresh water fish serve as morphological and physiological aids to research on nutrition, with consequent increase in the production of pisciculture, they are scarce in Brasil. For the present study, three species of fresh water Teleostei with different alimentary habits were used. We studied microscopically the structural organization of the wall of the different regions of the stomach of endocrine cells in this region. The specimens were collected, identified and submitted to routine procedures in order to establish the constituents, whose fragments underwent histological processing that included fixation, embedding in paraffin, and staining.  The results had evidenced that the structure of the wall of the stomach did not present significant differences among the studied species. The average number of argyrophil cells in the stomach  (0,0021 células/mm²) was about  38.000 a 57.000 lower than the number of cells normally observed in mammals such as opossum, mouse and pig. However, more specific endocrine stuies are necessary in order to support future research on the phylogeny, phylogeny and morphology of these and other species of fish.
