Free culture in education: a literature review on the use of Free Technologies, Open Science and Open Educational Resources in the teaching of Physics and Engineering

Resumo: | The authors carried out a literature review in journals of Physics and Engineering education to understand the approach of this area in relation to Free Culture concepts and tools – especially in relation to the Open Science, Open Educational Resources, Free Software and Free Hardware movements. The review identified the leading role in the application of free technologies in teaching activities, followed by the mobilization of these concepts, and that of Open Educational Resources, for social transformation. Despite the long history of the use of free technologies in the physics and engineering education, the area lacks theoretical discussions about the motivations and implications of the Free Culture movement for education and society. |
