Resumo: The present work deals with a research and case report on the role of the librarian in the practice of preserving institutional memory. A review was made in the most recent literature on the concepts of memory and institutional memory, as well as on memory in the virtual environment and the view of the judiciary on the subject. Then a literature review was carried out highlighting the informational skills of the professional librarian and, finally, the case of the Memory Space of the Federal Justice of Pernambuco is reported. It concludes that the librarian plays a crucial role in the management of memory institutions.

Foi feita uma revisão na literatura mais recente acerca dos conceitos de memória e memória institucional, como também sobre a memória no ambiente virtual e a visão do judiciário sobre o assunto. Em seguida fez-se uma revisão de literatura ressaltando as competências informacionais do profissional bibliotecário e, por fim, relata-se o caso do Espaço Memória da Justiça Federal de Pernambuco.
