The Place of Memory in the Elaboration of Archival and Preservation Policy: A Study Carried out in the Light of Information Science

This article aims to understand the importance of memory in the elaboration of relevant archival policies for society, enabling the continuity of preservation programs and practices that contribute to access to information in the digital age. For this, a qualitative analysis was carried out through descriptive research and, regarding methodological procedures, a literature review of the scientific production available in the Information Science Database. The results allow the perception of the relationship between memory and politics in the area of ​​Archival Science, leading to the understanding that the decisions and deliberations about the policy, aimed at the preservation and access to archival documents, end up composing and contributing to the mediation process involving the treatment and dissemination of information. Social memory influences information environments such as: archives, documentation centers and other information units, public or private, whose goal is to guard and preserve documental sets of interest to society, relating to the institutional memory of the organization and contributing to the articulation between theory and practice related to archival policy that focuses on document access and preservation.
