The research discussed the relevance of the municipal public archives as places of memory of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, the Executive File. Drew a panorama of Constitution of this archival institution to the present day in order to investigate and show the context of your creation and the existence of a cultural preservation policy operating in the Municipality. The study aimed to expose the management of local memory through preservation of documentary heritage, specifically your City Hall. The methodology adopted for carrying out the research in theoretical and methodological discussion on the subject, as well as analysis and interpretation of documents that chronicle the history of that file and, consequently of the city. The way we deal with historiographical analysis to detect the nuances of memory preservation in cities, focusing on the memory arqueologizada the documentary heritage of Montes Claros. The results pointed to the importance of this body of documentation for the (des) (re) construction of the stories of a place and its subject through the preservation and conservation of the documentary heritage, because, without it, the man loses some of its as a reference.
