Resumo: The paper discusses the results of an empirical research and diagnostic exploratory nature, held in private educational institutions in the state of São Paulo, focused on the discussion of the fundamental relationship between epistemological and cultural profiles for science teaching. In terms of methodology, outlined the epistemological profile of the concept of time of three students, one elementary school, one middle school and one higher education, using as a theoretical epistemology of Gaston Bachelard and different conceptions of time derived from the physical and philosophy. Based on the reports of the subjects, we sought to analyze its epistemological profiles, the existence of cultural influences in the formation of these profiles, as well as analysis of the cultural practices of the students in three categories: humanistic, scientific culture and mass culture.

Em termos metodológicos, analisamos as concepções de tempo de três alunas, sendo uma do ensino fundamental, uma do ensino médio e outra do ensino superior, utilizando como referencial teórico a epistemologia de Gaston Bachelard, mais especificamente a noção de perfil epistemológico, e de diferentes concepções de tempo oriundas da física e da filosofia.
