“Mendeleyev’s Dream” and the construction of the periodic table: analysis of scientific popularization material in light of aspects of the nature of science

Resumo: Scientific Divulgation has been changing over time, as well as science itself and its teaching. It started to be produced and thought of, even as an educational instrument, whose role is also to contribute and create conditions for a more critical formation of different subjects in relation to science. However, there are not always articulations between the characteristic references of science teaching and scientific divulgation itself, its actions and materials. Thus, in this work, we analyze segments of a popular science book about the history of the Periodic Table with the aim of exemplifying and/or counter-exemplifying aspects related to the Nature of Science. It is emphasized that the considerations made can help science educators to promote discussions about science, from the historical rescue made in the book, such as those that concern the collectivity of science, its theoretical disputes, its subjectivity, the importance of recognizing science in its historical, cultural, social contexts, among others.

Comenzó a producirse y pensarse, incluso como un instrumento educativo, cuya función es también contribuir y crear las condiciones para una formación más crítica de las distintas materias en relación con la ciencia. Sin embargo, no siempre se dan articulaciones entre los referentes característicos de la educación científica y la divulgación científica y sus acciones y materiales. De esta forma, en este trabajo se realizó un análisis de segmentos de un libro de divulgación científica sobre la historia de la Tabla Periódica con el fin de ejemplificar y / o contraejemplificar aspectos relacionados con la Naturaleza de la Ciencia. Se espera que contribuya para que los educadores de la educación científica puedan potenciar las discusiones sobre ciencia a partir de la recuperación histórica realizada por la obra.A Divulgação Científica vem se modificando ao longo do tempo, assim como a própria ciência e o seu ensino. Ela passou a ser produzida e pensada, inclusive, como um instrumento educativo, cujo papel também é o de contribuir e criar condições para uma formação mais crítica de diferentes sujeitos em relação à ciência. Entretanto, nem sempre ocorrem articulações entre os referenciais característicos do ensino de ciências e a própria divulgação científica, suas ações e materiais. Dessa forma, neste trabalho, analisa-se segmentos de um livro de divulgação científica acerca da história da Tabela Periódica com o intuito de exemplificar e/ou contraexemplificar aspectos relativos à Natureza da Ciência.
