Resumo: | This paper presents some reflections on the results of the Project Language beliefs and attitudes: a study on the relationship between Portuguese and contact languages.In order to carry out this qualitative research, we considered the reality of the border context between Brazil and Paraguay that characterizes the West of Paraná. We selected excerpts of the respondents’ statements regarding Spanish and Guarani as “a language spoken by the other in the border region”. These informants live in Guaíra, a city located on the border of Paraguay and the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Their statements indicate prejudiced attitudes or stigma in relation to the language varieties spoken on the border region and even to the standard Portuguese. |

Para el desarrollo de esta investigación, de naturaleza cualitativa, se consideró la realidad del contexto de frontera de Brasil con Paraguay que caracteriza la región Oeste de Paraná. Se seleccionaron recortes de palabras de los informantes, participantes del proyecto, con relación al español y al guaraní como “lengua hablada por el otro en región de frontera”. Se trata de informantes moradores de la ciudad de Guaíra, ubicada en la frontera con Paraguay y con el estado Mato Grosso do Sul. Mostraron, en las declaraciones, actitudes que revelan prejuicio o estigma en relación al hablar del otro en la región fronteriza e incluso con respecto a la variante norma del portugués.Apresentam-se, neste artigo, reflexões sobre resultados do Projeto Crenças e atitudes linguísticas: um estudo da relação do português com línguas de contato. Para o desenvolvimento desta pesquisa, considerou-se a realidade do contexto de fronteira do Brasil com o Paraguai que caracteriza a região Oeste do Paraná. Selecionaram-se recortes de falas dos informantes, participantes do projeto, com relação ao espanhol e ao guarani como “língua falada pelo outro em região de fronteira”. Trata-se de informantes moradores da cidade de Guaíra, localizada na fronteira com o Paraguai e com o estado Mato Grosso do Sul.
