Places of Foreign Languages in abstract translations of articles published in Linguistics and Literature

Resumo: This study aims at investigating the places that foreign languages occupy in the abstract translation of articles published in journals classified with the highest rank (A1) by the Brazilian Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) in the area of Linguistics and Literature. This study is inserted within the area of Sociolinguistics, more specifically within Linguistic Policies. The methodological procedure consists in generating data from bibliographic and documental research. Results show that English occupies, in the analyzed journals, a privileged place over other foreign languages. Moreover, results also show that Spanish, French, and Italian are other possible languages adopted in the abstract translations, however, they represent a small place in the investigated journals.

Se trata de una pesquisa que se insiere en el área de la Sociolinguística, más específicamente vinculada al campo de las Políticas Lingüísticas. La metodología utilizada consiste en la generación de datos a partir de la pesquisa bibliográfica y documental. Los resultados muestran que la lengua inglesa ocupa en los periódicos analizados un lugar privilegiado en relación a las otras lenguas extranjeras. Muestran, también, que el español, el francés y el italiano son las otras lenguas posibles para la traducción de los resúmenes, pero representan un lugar pequeño en los periódicos investigados.O objetivo principal deste estudo é investigar lugares que ocupam as línguas estrangeiras nas traduções de resumos de artigos publicados em periódicos classificados como A1 avaliados pela CAPES na área de Linguística e Literatura.
