Prosody of Neutral and Sarcastic Interrogatives: how more schooled readers and less schooled readers recover pragmatic aspects in reading in a loud voice

Resumo: In order to correlate reading proficiency and prosodic aspects, we characterize the reading aloud of readers at different levels of education regarding the acoustic behavior of sarcastic and neutral interrogatives. In order to contribute to the literature, we seek to show how these different reader profiles process pragmatic aspects of the written text. For this, we produce texts with sarcastic interrogative target phrases and neutral interrogative target phrases. The texts were read aloud and recorded for acoustic analysis. The scores obtained underwent statistical analysis. The statistical test showed relevant differences between the sarcastic interrogative and the neutral interrogative. We verified that the acoustic F0 measures are increased in the sarcastic interrogative, for the most schooled groups.

Buscamos mostrar cómo estos diferentes perfiles de lectores procesan aspectos pragmáticos del texto escrito. Para ello, creamos textos con frases interrogativas sarcásticas y frases interrogativas neutras. Los textos se leyeron en voz alta y se grabaron para su análisis acústico. Los valores brutos se sometieron a análisis estadístico. La prueba estadística mostró diferencias significativas entre la interrogativa sarcástica y la interrogativa neutra. Encontramos que las medidas acústicas de F0 aumentan en interrogativas sarcásticas, para los grupos con mayor nivel de escolaridad.A fim de correlacionar proficiência leitora e aspectos prosódicos, caracterizamos a leitura em voz alta de leitores em diferentes níveis de escolaridade quanto ao comportamento acústico de interrogativas sarcásticas e neutras. Buscamos mostrar como esses diferentes perfis de leitores processam aspectos pragmáticos do texto escrito. Para isso, produzimos textos com frases-alvo interrogativas sarcásticas e frases-alvo interrogativas neutras. Os textos foram lidos em voz alta e gravados para análise acústica. Os escores brutos foram submetidos a análises estatísticas. O teste estatístico evidenciou diferenças significativas entre a interrogativa sarcástica e a interrogativa neutra.
