Revisiting genre in Bakhtin through Patrick Sériot´s perspective: dispersion of meanings and pedagogical implications

Resumo: The present work discusses what the well known Slavonian languages expert Patrick Sériot calls "poor understanding" in Bakhtin’s theories on genre, in his essay Généraliser l'unique: genres, types et sphères chez Bakhtine. Some topics are detailed in order for one to learn about the historic course followed by the philosopher and the specific text on genres (Speech genres). Then, taking interpretation as dispersion and effects on meaning, the way theory has been made operational and its interpretation along its history is discussed. Noowadays, it has been said that Bakhtin is other than the one he used to be for himself and his contemporaries. What is in focus here is reflecting on all that dispersion of meanings means to us, considering the changes in methodological development in the teaching and learning of languages.

Se llama la atención sobre algunos tópicos con la intención de llevar a la comprensión y al camino histórico recorrido por el filósofo y el texto específico sobre los géneros (Os gêneros do discurso). A partir de ahí, tomando la interpretación como dispersión y efectos de sentido, se estudia la puesta en acción de la teoría y la interpretación hecha del texto en su camino histórico. Se entiende que Bakhtin, hoy, e otro y no lo que fue para sí mismo y para sus contemporáneos. Se trata, pues, de reflexionar sobre qué significado este hecho tiene para nosotros, con el consecuente cambio de rumbo metodológico en la enseñanza y aprendizaje de lenguas.Este trabalho discute o que Patrick Sériot, eslavista reconhecido, chama de “mau entendimento” da teoria de Bakhtin sobre os gêneros, em seu ensaio Généraliser l’unique: genres, types et sphères chez Bakhtine. Alguns tópicos são detalhados no sentido de se compreender o percurso histórico do filósofo e o texto específico sobre os gêneros (Os gêneros do discurso). A partir daí, tomando a interpretação como dispersão e efeitos de sentido, estuda-se a operacionalização da teoria e a interpretação feita do texto em seu percurso histórico. Entende-se que Bakhtin, hoje, é outro do que foi para si mesmo e seus contemporâneos.
