Designations for “part of mother’s body with which she breastfeeds the children”: a geosociolinguistic and lexical-semantic study in Mato Grosso do Sul (MS)

Resumo: We propose a geosociolinguistic and lexical-semantic analysis of “the part of the mother’s body with which she breastfeeds the children”, based on data provided by the ALiB Project (Linguistic Atlas of Brazil), with regional headquarters in Campo Grande / MS. Anchored in the theoretical assumptions of Cardoso and Mota (2013), about the theoretical-historical path of Dialectology in Brazil and the use of Pluridimensional Geolinguistics as a method, by Guérios (1979), about means of substitution for linguistic taboos, and also in the considerations of Pietroforte and Lopes (2017), regarding Lexical Semantics, we seek to analyze the lexical productivity of the PEITO, SEIO and MAMA variants, pointed out by informants in the interior cities from the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, used as a network of survey points for the ALiB Project. After assessing the diatopic distribution of variants in these cities, we investigated the linguistic uses based on the diassexual (sex) and diagerational (age of the informants) criteria. Finally, we analyze meanings for lexical units produced under the general dictionaries Caldas Aulete Digital, Michaelis Digital and Priberam Online, in addition to the Medical Semiology Manual, by Porto (2005), terminological dictionary in the field of Medicine. As a result of the research, we verified the greater use of scientific and technical terms to name this referent in the interior of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The lexical-semantic analysis, on the other hand, indicates that the name PEITO, typical of orality, has already been stated in the dictionary.

Ancorados em Cardoso e Mota (2013), sobre o percurso teórico-histórico da Dialetologia no Brasil e a utilização da Geolinguística Pluridimensional enquanto método, em Guérios (1979), sobre meios de substituição para tabus linguísticos, e também nas considerações de Pietroforte e Lopes (2017), a respeito da Semântica Lexical, buscamos analisar a produtividade lexical das variantes PEITO, SEIO e MAMA, apontadas pelos informantes das cidades do interior do estado do Mato Grosso do Sul, utilizadas como rede de pontos de inquéritos do Projeto ALiB. Após aferirmos a distribuição diatópica das variantes nessas cidades, investigamos os usos linguísticos a partir dos critérios diassexual (sexo) e diageracional (idade dos informantes). Por fim, analisamos acepções para as unidades lexicais registradas nos dicionários gerais Caldas Aulete Digital, Michaelis Digital e Priberam Online, além do Manual de Semiologia Médica, de Porto (2005), dicionário terminológico da área da Medicina. Como resultados da pesquisa, verificamos a maior utilização de termos científicos e técnicos para nomear este referente no interior do estado do Mato Grosso do Sul.
