Considerations about the word "foda" in contemporary uses

Words considered ‘bad words’ still occupy a linguistic taboo value, that is, they are, somehow, prohibited in linguistic use. The framing of these words as taboos is due to the fact that, traditionally, their semantic value is pejorative, indicating general offenses, sexual organs or the sexual act itself. From this premise, this paper aims to present the preliminary results of a study developed on profanity in contemporary times, more specifically the investigations on the word foda, in order to investigate whether, despite appearing with denomination related to the sexual relationship, this word still retains its meaning of taboo or has taken on new semantic values and new linguistic features today. To investigate this element, we selected online comments written on YouTube channels that focus on online games commonly played by teenagers. For the analysis of the corpus of this research, the theoretical precepts of Functionalism are used, focusing on linguistic studies that investigate linguistic elements from their use in real contexts of communication, thus trying to understand and describe them. In this work, we will folllow, specifically, the precepts proposed by the multisystemic perspective of language, proposed by Castilho (2006, 2007, 2010).
