Resumo: This essay aims at analyzing sport as a Brazilian cultural element and its role in society, mainly when associated with social and political movements. Considered an important social object of contemporaneity, sport – especially football, from its historical, sociological and anthropological aspects allows the analysis of nuances that characterize the complex brazilian society. Thus, in this text, the relationship between sport and politics is reflected, bringing up the debate of some analysis regarding the popular demonstrations which occurred in some Brazilian capital cities in 2013 during the Confederations Cup, FIFA’s test event for the 2014 World Cup. In the reflective exercise that was conducted, some ambivalences related to the sport as a constituent of the formation of a Brazilian “society” or “nation” are found based on well-known elaborations surrounding the Brazilian cordiality, the malandragem (attitude) dialectics, the Brazilian way, the dialectics of marginality, and football as a “poison pill”.

Considerado un importante objeto social de la contemporaneidad, el deporte, especialmente el fútbol, desde sus aspectos históricos, sociológicos y antropológicos, nos permite analizar matices que caracterizan a la compleja sociedad brasileña. Así, en el texto, reflexionamos sobre las relaciones entre deporte y política, aportando al debate algunos análisis en cuanto a las manifestaciones populares ocurridas en algunas capitales brasileñas en 2013, durante la Copa de las Confederaciones, evento de test de la FIFA para la Copa del Mundo de 2014. En el ejercicio reflexivo realizado, se constatan ambivalencias en relación al deporte como parte integrante de la formación de una “sociedad” o “nación” brasileña, a partir de elaboraciones muy conocidas, alrededor del brasileño cordial, de la dialéctica de la astucia, del “jeitinho brasileiro”, de la dialéctica de la marginalidad y del fútbol como un “veneno remedio”.Neste ensaio procura-se pensar o esporte como elemento cultural brasileiro e seu papel na sociedade, principalmente quando associado às movimentações político-sociais. Considerado um importante objeto social da contemporaneidade, o esporte, em especial, o futebol, a partir de seus aspectos históricos, sociológicos e antropológicos permite-nos analisar nuances que caracterizam a complexa sociedade brasileira. Assim, no texto, refletimos sobre as relações entre esporte e política, trazendo ao debate algumas análises quanto às manifestações populares ocorridas em algumas capitais brasileiras em 2013, durante a Copa das Confederações, evento-teste da FIFA para a Copa do Mundo de 2014.
