Methods and contents taught in the initiation of beach tennis based on coaches’ discourses

Resumo: Beach tennis has recently sparked academic interest, and studies involving its contents and teaching possibilities have proven relevant for expanding discussions within this context. This study aimed to identify and analyze the selected contents and teaching methods used by coaches in initiation. Five coaches from a municipality in the state of São Paulo were interviewed, and their discourses were analyzed through Reflexive Thematic Analysis. Two themes and four subthemes were constructed, revealing that the reported technical-tactical contents partially corroborate with literature accounts. On the other hand, it was noted that coaches rely on teaching approaches that include principles analogous to behaviorism as well as constructivism, also with the perspective of teaching technique before tactics. It is suggested that in initiation, there should be planning of situations allowing for addressing movement/spatial occupation, using the racket against the ball, and making intentional decisions.

El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar y analizar los contenidos seleccionados y los métodos de enseñanza utilizados por los entrenadores en la iniciación. Se entrevistaron a cinco entrenadores de una ciudad del estado de São Paulo, cuyos discursos fueron analizados mediante Análisis Temático Reflexivo. Se construyeron dos temas y cuatro subtemas, revelando que los contenidos técnicos-tácticos reportados corroboran parcialmente con los relatos de la literatura. Por otro lado, se observó que los entrenadores se apoyan en enfoques de enseñanza que incluyen principios análogos al conductismo, así como al constructivismo, también con la perspectiva de enseñar la técnica antes que las tácticas. Se sugiere que en la iniciación se planifiquen situaciones que permitan abordar el movimiento/ocupación espacial, utilizar la raqueta contra la pelota y tomar decisiones intencionales.O beach tennis apresenta interesse acadêmico recente e estudos que envolvem seus conteúdos e possibilidades de ensino mostram-se relevantes para ampliar as discussões desse contexto. O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar e analisar os conteúdos selecionados e os métodos de ensino utilizados por treinadores na iniciação. Cinco treinadores de um município do estado de São Paulo foram entrevistados e os discursos analisados por meio da Análise Temática Reflexiva. Dois temas e quatro subtemas foram construídos, e revelaram que os conteúdos técnico-táticos relatados corroboram em parte os relatos da literatura. Por outro lado, foi possível notar que os treinadores apoiam-se em abordagens de ensino tanto com princípios análogos ao behaviorismo como ao construtivismo, também com a perspectiva do ensino da técnica em momento anterior à tática.
