Resumo: This article aims to describe the consequences of developing a teaching unit on water activities in Physical Education classes with an 8th-grade elementary education class at a public school. From a qualitative approach, a case study was conducted that used written assessments and interviews with participants after the development of ten water activity classes covering conceptual and procedural contents. The results indicated a notable expansion in students’ knowledge about water activities. In addition, there was also a change in teachers’ perception about the teaching of this content at school. The teacher and the principal, who used to see the topic as something dangerous to be addressed in Physical Education classes, started advocating that all students should experience water activities in that class.

A través de un enfoque cualitativo, se realizó un estudio de caso que utilizó evaluaciones escritas y entrevistas a los participantes luego del desarrollo de diez clases de actividades acuáticas contemplando contenidos conceptuales y procedimentales. Además de que los resultados indicaron una notable expansión del conocimiento de los estudiantes sobre las actividades del agua, también hubo un cambio en la percepción del profesorado sobre la enseñanza de este contenido en la escuela. La maestra regente y la directora, quienes percibieron el tema como algo peligroso de tratar en las clases de Educación Física, comenzaron a defender que todos los alumnos deben experimentar las actividades acuáticas en esta disciplina.Este artigo tem como objetivo principal descrever as decorrências do desenvolvimento de uma unidade de ensino sobre atividades aquáticas nas aulas de Educação Física, com uma turma do 8º ano do Ensino Fundamental de uma escola pública. Por meio de uma abordagem qualitativa, foi realizado um estudo de caso que utilizou avaliações escritas e entrevistas com os participantes após o desenvolvimento de dez aulas de atividades aquáticas contemplando conteúdos conceituais e procedimentais. Além de os resultados terem indicado notória ampliação do conhecimento dos alunos sobre atividades aquáticas, também houve mudança de percepção do corpo docente sobre o ensino desse conteúdo na escola.
