Resumo: The article analyzes the comics “Firmeza” and “Baobá” present in the work Tayó in comics by the writer Kiusam de Oliveira (2021) and illustration by Amora Moreira. The objective is to reflect on racism in formal and informal school spaces, overcoming racial prejudice in educational practices, linked to the study of African and Afro-Brazilian culture in the basic stage. For the analysis, laws 10,639 of 2003, 7,716 of 1989, article 140 of the penal code and studies by Gomes (2006; 2019) on race, early childhood education and black identity were used; by Araújo (2020) about the representation of black characters in children's literature; by Almeida (2020) on structural racism; and by Munanga (2006) regarding the body and black identity. It was concluded that the analyzed comics provide an opportunity to reflect on how racism affects healthy child development, as well as contributing to more affective identity constructions and to the exercise of empathy.
