Resumo: | This study reports on an experimental research carried out with 50 Spanish-L1 trainees, divided into 2 groups: A & B. Both groups were presented with a traditional-teacher centered approach based on controlled exercises (repetition, imitation), but group B added a communicative component in which students completed a battery of sequenced tasks with a focus on phonological form. Both groups recorded a speaking test before & after instruction which was used to measure and compare degrees of accentedness, frequency & duration of pauses and nuclear stress placement. Ten English-native-speaker-raters judged the recordings to determine the speakers’ degree of perceived accentedness. Two specialists, using inter-marker reliability, segmented the transcriptions of recordings and identified nuclear stress placement. Another two specialists identified empty pauses. Multivariate analysis was used to measure results. Overall, group B (learners exposed to the communicative component) obtained better results in all 3 parameters than the other group. Finally, some pedagogical implications for the teaching of L2 pronunciation in ELT contexts will be discussed. |

Finalmente, serão discutidas algumas implicações pedagógicas para o ensino da pronúncia L2 em contextos ELT.UFSC2017-09-22info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionInvestigación empíricaapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/article/view/2175-8026.2017v70n3p18510.5007/2175-8026.2017v70n3p185Ilha do Desterro A Journal of English Language, Literatures in English and Cultural Studies; Vol. 70 No. 3 (2017); 185-200Ilha do Desterro A Journal of English Language, Literatures in English and Cultural Studies; v. 70 n. 3 (2017); 185-2002175-80260101-4846reponame:Ilha do Desterroinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)instacron:UFSCenghttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/article/view/2175-8026.2017v70n3p185/35018Copyright (c) 2017 Pedro Luis Luchiniinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessLuchini, Pedro Luis2017-09-26T08:45:54Zoai:periodicos.ufsc.br:article/49126Revistahttp://www.periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterroPUBhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/oaiilha@cce.ufsc.br||corseuil@cce.ufsc.br||ilhadodesterro@gmail.com2175-80260101-4846opendoar:2017-09-26T08:45:54Ilha do Desterro - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)false |
