EMOTIONS IN THE AGE OF AI: THE INTERSECTION OF NEUROSCIENCE AND GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Resumo: This article examines intersections between Generative Artificial Intelligence and human emotions, questioning the ability of machines to replicate and understand emotions. Emotions have been a differentiator between humans and machines, but advances in AI have challenged this notion. While Generative AI creates systems capable of generating emotional content and simulations, neuroscience reveals the brain mechanisms underlying emotions, in particular the studies of António Damásio. The research is based on a qualitative literature review on emotions, the interconnection between reason, cognition and decision-making, seeking to understand emotions in the context of AI and neuroscience, technical, ethical and philosophical aspects.

La investigación se basa en una revisión cualitativa de la literatura sobre las emociones, la interconexión entre la razón, la cognición y la toma de decisiones, buscando comprender las emociones en el contexto de la IA y la neurociencia, los aspectos técnicos, éticos y filosóficos.Esse artigo examina intersecções entre Inteligência Artificial Generativa e emoções humanas, questionando a capacidade das máquinas de replicar e compreender emoções. As emoções têm sido diferenciadoras entre humanos e máquinas, porém, avanços na IA têm desafiado essa noção. Enquanto a IA Generativa cria sistemas capazes de gerar conteúdos e simulações emocionais, a neurociência revela mecanismos cerebrais subjacentes às emoções, com destaque para os estudos de António Damásio.
