Odontologia.A Disfunção Temporomandibular (DTM) é uma condição de etiologia complexa e multifatorial, apresentando como sinais e sintomas dor ou desconforto na Articulação Temporomandibular (ATM), na região dos olhos, nos ouvidos, nos músculos mastigatórios, na face, nas costas, na região cervical, entre outros locais. Fatores emocionais como ansiedade e estresse estão diretamente ligados à sintomatologia dolorosa. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma revisão da literatura e um relato de caso clínico sobre a relação entre DTM, estresse e ansiedade. Para tal, foi realizada uma revisão de literatura através de pesquisa eletrônica nas bases de dados Scielo, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, PubMed e Google Acadêmico, bem como com o atendimento de um paciente no CEMDOR (Centro Multidisciplinar de Dor Orofacial), que se dispôs a participar deste estudo a fim de mensurar a intensidade da dor com o auxílio da escala de análise visual (EAV) e a ansiedade através do Inventário de Ansiedade de Beck, de forma quantitativa e qualitativa, além de realizar tratamento conservador através de farmacoterapia, fisioterapia e placa oclusal superior rígida. Conclui-se, assim, que os fatores emocionais estão diretamente ligados aos sinais e sintomas das DTMs, sendo essencial uma abordagem de ordem interdisciplinar para que o tratamento com o cirurgião-dentista seja efetivo.Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) is a condition of complex and multifactorial etiology, presenting as signs and symptoms pain or discomfort in Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), in the eyes region, in the ears region, in the masticatory muscles, in the face, in the cervical region, and others. Emotional factors as anxiety and stress are associated to pain symptomatology. The aim of this study was to review the literature and to submit a clinical case report on a relationship between TMD, stress and anxiety. To this intent, it was performed a literature review through electronical research on databases: Scielo, Virtual Library on Health, PubMed, and Google Scholar. As well as with the care of a patient in CEMDOR (Multidisciplinary Center of Orofacial Pain), who was willing to participate in this study in order to measure pain intensity with the aid of the visual analysis scale (VAS) and anxiety through the Beck Anxiety Inventory quantitatively and qualitatively. Additionally, it was conduct conservative treatment through pharmacotherapy, physiotherapy and rigid upper occlusal splint.
