Resumo: In the representation of two combat episodes, one of the most fictionally-told themes in the literature of rural subjects in Rio Grande do Sul and in Uruguay – violence – is analyzed; in the two short stories under study, the woman plays the role of the eminently male protagonist of action, thus, subverting the context and the hierarchy of that time as well as the literary tradition of the Pampas, which had elected the man as the protagonist who acts. This theme, which is also understood as a contact point between both literary systems, contributes to the investigation that aims at analyzing them together, as proposed by Angel Rama who perceived similarities beyond geopolitical boundaries in the cultural setting of the Pampas.
