Resumo: The present review aims to analyze the work Bourgeois body culture: history and pedagogical systematizations, authored by Prof. Pierre Normando Gomes-da-Silva. The book deals with how gymnastics became the education of the body, a component of the code of conduct fabricated by the bourgeois civilizing process, which demanded standardized and self-disciplined behavior from individuals, according to the parameters of usefulness, productive efficiency, moderation of emotions, and softening of passions. It is a deep rereading of the origins of bourgeois body behavior, through the history of the pedagogical systematization of gymnastics in Europe and Brazil. At the same time, it initiates the first steps towards an understanding of movement as a language phenomenon, which would culminate, a posteriori, in the emergence of the Pedagogy of Corporality.

El libro trata de cómo la gimnasia se convirtió en la educación del cuerpo, un componente del código de conducta fabricado por el proceso civilizatorio burgués, que exigía de los individuos conductas estandarizadas y autodisciplinadas, según los parámetros de utilidad, eficiencia productiva, moderación de la las emociones y el ablandamiento de las pasiones. Es una profunda relectura de los orígenes del comportamiento corporal burgués, atravesada por la historia de las sistematizaciones pedagógicas de la gimnasia en Europa y Brasil, al mismo tiempo que el autor da los primeros pasos hacia una comprensión del movimiento como fenómeno del lenguaje, que culminaría después con el surgimiento de la Pedagogía de la Corporeidad.   A presente resenha tem o objetivo de analisar a obra Cultura corporal burguesa: história e sistematizações pedagógicas, de autoria do Prof. Dr. Pierre Normando Gomes-da-Silva. O livro trata a respeito de como a ginástica se tornou a educação do corpo, um componente do código de conduta fabricado pelo processo civilizador burguês, que exigiu dos indivíduos comportamentos padronizados e autodisciplinados de acordo com os parâmetros de utilidade, eficiência produtiva, moderação das emoções e abrandamento das paixões.
