FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION X RIGHT TO HONOR: POPULAR EXPRESSIONS AS A MEANS OF TRANSMITTING SOCIAL DISCRIMINATION

The main purpose of this research is to investigate and understand the limits of freedom of expression and to critically analyze whether this right does not end up confronting the right to honor of vulnerable groups, such as women, who are directly affected by popular expressions daily said by thousands of Brazilians. Hence, it is necessary to have a theoretical basis about the problem, through the analysis of articles, doctrines, and national and international legislation. Subsequently, we performed empirical research in which ten people were interviewed, among them five women and five men, constructing qualitative research. We concluded that, although the right to freedom of expression is of critical importance to the democratic system of law, it is essential to understand its limits so that the honor and human dignity of certain individuals is preserved, because even though seem harmless, words have an enormous power of exclusion.
