Resumo: | This article discusses the use of written texts as corpora in Historical Linguistics, focusing on some ideas that tradition has perpetuated, namely on the adequacy of writing data and of the different types of sources and editing in studies on past phases of the language. These ideas are here reviewed and analyzed taking into account the peculiarity of this discipline and in the light of the changes brought by the digital age to editorial theory and practice. As a result, a redefinition of the primary object of Historical Linguistics and a diversification of the types of sources and of editing are proposed. |
