Visual Cues and Video Modeling for Toothbrushing in People with Autistic Spectrum Disorder: integrative literature review

Resumo: This integrative literature review  aims to survey the scientific production on Visual Cues and Videomodeling in the development of teeth brushing skills in people with Autism Syndrome Disorder (ASD).Therefore, a search was carried out in the databases with a cut between the years 2010 and 2021 in the portals CAPES, Pepsic, Redalyc and Pubmed using the following keyword combinations: autism AND oral hygiene, tooth brushing AND autism, visual cues AND oral hygiene, visual cues AND tooth brushing, video modeling AND dental brushing, video modeling AND oral care, video modeling AND oral health, visual pedagogy AND toothbrushing and their portuguese equivalents. A total of 15 studies were selected and analyzed, and their results showed that both instruments are positive for the development of brushing skills in people with ASD. It wasn’t possible to define the best instrument through this selection, but this study clarify improvement strategies for the teaching learning process. Furthermore, the research demonstrated limitations due to convenience samples, since it isn’t possible to generalize the results. The lack of Brazilian and Latin American articles in the present selection demonstrates the importance of new studies in the area.

Por lo tanto, serealizó una búsqueda en las bases de datos com un corte entre los años 2010 y 2021 en los portales CAPES, Pepsic, Redalyc y Pubmed usando las siguientes combinaciones de palabras clave en ingles y portugues: autismo Y higiene bucal, cepillado de dientes Y autismo, señales visuales Y higiene bucal, señales visuales Y cepillado de dientes, modelado de video Y cepillado de dientes, modelado de video Y cuidado bucal, modelado de video Y salud bucal, pedagogía visual Y cepillo de dientes. Se seleccionaron y analizaronun total de 15 estudios, y sus resultados mostraron que ambos instrumentos son positivos para eldesarrollo de las habilidades de cepillado em personas com TEA. Através de esta selección no fueposible definir la mejor herramienta, sino aclarar estratégias de mejora para el processo de anseñanza y aprendizaie. Además, la investigación há demostrado limitaciones debido a las muestras de conveniencia, ya que no es posible generalizar sus resultados. La falta de artículos brasileños y latino-americanos em la presente selección demuestrala importância de nuevos estudios em la área.Esta revisão integrativa da literatura possui como objetivo levantar a produção científica sobre Pistas Visuais e Videomodelação no desenvolvimento de habilidades de escovar os dentes em pessoas com Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA). Assim, realizou-se uma busca nas bases de dados com um recorte entre os anos 2010 e 2021 nos portais CAPES, Pepsic, Redalyc e Pubmed utilizando as seguintes combinações de palavras-chaves: autismo AND higiene bucal, escovação dentária AND autismo, pistas visuais AND higiene bucal, pistas visuais AND escovação dentária, videomodelação AND escovação dentária, videomodelação AND cuidados bucais, videomodelação AND saúde bucal, pedagogia visual AND escovação dentária e suas equivalentes em inglês. Ao total 15 estudos foram selecionados e analisados, e seus resultados evidenciaram que ambos os instrumentos são positivos para o desenvolvimento de habilidades de escovação em pessoas com TEA. Não foi possível definir a melhor ferramenta através desta seleção, mas sim clarificar estratégias de melhoria para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Além disso, pesquisas demonstraram limitações devido a utilização de amostras por conveniência , visto que não é possível generalizar seus resultados.
