Resumo: How are the media, communication, and organizational environments of the innovation ecosystem in universities configured? This was the problem-question that guided this study, with its objectification centered on the innovative ecosystem of federal universities headquartered in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, namely: the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel), the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre (UFCSPA), and the Federal University of Pampa (Unipampa). In action, its general objective sought to unveil the echo of communication and innovation in the universities of Rio Grande do Sul in the light of Media Ecology and the philosophy of Marshall McLuhan, while reviewing theoretical and research approaches in the field of Media Ecology and the innovative phenomenon, identifying the innovative organizational macro-system, recognizing the organizational mesocomplex for the generation and promotion of innovative products and services, verifying the organizational micro-processes for circulation, visibility, and ecosystemic legitimacy, and understanding the intersections between the media ecosystem and the innovation system in the objectified universities. Given the problematization of the empirical object in conjunction with the specific objectives, the research sought in Media Ecology and Marshall McLuhan's philosophy, especially in his figure-ground reversal method, laid the foundations to support both theoretical-epistemological and theoretical-methodological approaches. Given the theoretical-practical, contemporary, and complex nature of the problem at hand, an inductive method was adopted, complemented by the triangulation of approaches common to exploratory, descriptive, and explanatory research. Due to the flexibility in choosing techniques and procedures in the appropriation of these approaches, three techniques for data and information collection were developed, each formatted from distinct but inseparable analyticalinvestigative lenses. Through bibliographic probing, the literature was reviewed. Documentary and conversational probes allowed for a realistic understanding of innovative systems in federal universities in Rio Grande do Sul. This not only filled gaps in the object of study but also allowed the research to delve into the complexities of the ecosystemic phenomenon of innovation. Configuration probes, on the other hand, were necessary to create more detailed representations of the organizational structures of innovation ecosystems while expanding the perception of the media environments that make up the current media ecosystem. Through the figure-ground reversal method, the particularities that each element possesses emerged, moving them from the background to the central focus of visualization. This process allowed for a more precise and concrete representation of both the innovation ecosystem and the communication and media ecosystem. From that point on, the innovation ecosystem of universities with main campuses in the state of Rio Grande do Sul was configured, organized into three systemic-processual levels: the innovative organizational macro-system, which encompasses the structures and representations of an innovation ecosystem in higher education institutions; the organizational mesocomplex for the generation and promotion of innovative products and services, where we classified the arrangements and layers of the innovative phenomenon within these institutions; and organizational micro-processes for circulation, visibility, and ecosystemic legitimacy, which encompass the stages involving the diffusion of the innovative phenomenon. Additionally, the same process was applied to the communication and media fields to develop a unique configuration for the media ecosystem, which, in turn, was composed of twelve media environments, each bringing together various systems to perform specific functions or allow users to assign desired functions to them, which can be integrated into different devices. These environments are interconnected by transmedia networks or environments composed of hardware devices and software systems. In response to the problem and, by extension, the objectives, the echo of communication and innovation in the university is configured through the intersections between the media ecosystem and the innovation ecosystem. The interaction between these ecosystems is clear, as different media environments play various strategic roles in the ecology of innovation. On the one hand, be skillfully adopted to position organizational communication, attentive to the phenomenon of mediatization, as a strategic field of practices and processes for innovation and creativity environments. On the other hand, not only communication but also media environments act as means to operationalize innovative products, processes, and services, all grounded in technologies interconnected through transmedia networks.

Esta foi a questão-problema que direcionou este estudo, cuja objetificação centrou-se no ecossistema inovativo das universidades federais com campus-sede no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, nomeadamente: Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM), Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPel), Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre (UFCSPA) e Universidade Federal do Pampa (Unipampa). Posto em ação, seu objetivo geral buscou desvelar o eco da comunicação e da inovação nas universidades federais gaúchas à luz da Ecologia da Mídia e da filosofia de Marshall McLuhan, ao passo de revisar as abordagens teóricas e de pesquisa no âmbito da Ecologia da Mídia e do fenômeno inovativo, identificar o macrossistema organizacional inovativo, reconhecer o mesocomplexo organizacional para geração e fomento de produtos e serviços inovadores, verificar os microprocessos organizacionais para circulação, visibilidade e legitimação ecossistêmica e perceber as intersecções do ecossistema midiático com o sistema inovativo nas universidades objetificadas. Dado à problematização do objeto empírico em articulação aos objetivos específicos, a pesquisa buscou na Ecologia da Mídia e na filosofia de Marshall McLuhan, especialmente em seu método de inversão figura-fundo, as bases para fundamentar tanto as abordagens teórico-epistemológicas quanto teórico-metodológicas. Diante da natureza teórico-prática, contemporânea e complexa da problemática em questão, adotou-se o método indutivo, complementado com a triangulação de abordagens comuns às pesquisas exploratórias, descritivas e explicativas. Devido à flexibilidade na escolha das técnicas e procedimentos na apropriação dessas abordagens, elaborou-se, à luz do método de inversão figurafundo, três técnicas para coleta de dados e informações, cada uma formatada a partir de lentes analítico-investigativas distintas, porém indissociáveis. Com a sondabibliográfica, revisou-se a literatura. Já as sondas-documentais e sondasconversacionais possibilitaram obter uma compreensão realista dos sistemas inovativos nas universidades federais gaúchas. Isso não só preencheu as lacunas no objeto de estudo, mas também permitiu à pesquisa mergulhar nas complexidades do fenômeno ecossistêmico da inovação. As sondas-configuracionais, por sua vez, foram necessárias para criar representações mais detalhadas das estruturas organizativas dos ecossistemas de inovação, ao passo de ampliar a percepção dos ambientes de mídia que formam o ecossistema midiático atual. Através do método de inversão figura-fundo, emergiram as particularidades que cada elemento possui, movendo-as do plano de menor destaque (fundo) para o foco central de visualização (figura). Esse processo permitiu uma representação mais precisa e concreta tanto do ecossistema de inovação quanto da comunicação e do ecossistema midiático. A partir desse momento, configurou-se o ecossistema de inovação das universidades com campus-sede no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, organizado em três níveis sistêmicoprocessuais: macrossistema organizacional inovativo, que engloba as estruturas e representações de um ecossistema de inovação em instituições de ensino superior; mesocomplexo organizacional para geração e fomento de produtos e serviços inovadores, onde classificamos os arranjos e as camadas do fenômeno inovativo dentro dessas instituições; e microprocessos organizacionais para circulação, visibilidade e legitimação ecossistêmica, que engloba as etapas que envolvem a difusão do fenômeno inovativo. Além disso, utilizou-se o mesmo processo sobre o campo comunicacional e midiático, para elaborar uma configuração própria para o ecossistema de mídia, que por sua vez, foi composto por doze ambiências de mídia, cada uma reunindo diversos sistemas para desempenhar funções específicas ou permitir que os usuários atribuam a elas as funções desejadas, podendo ser acopladas em diferentes dispositivos. Essas ambiências estão interligadas por redes ou ambientes transmidiáticos, compostos por dispositivos de hardware e sistemas de software. Como resposta à problemática e, por extensão, aos objetivos, o eco da comunicação e da inovação na universidade é configurado por meio das intersecções entre o ecossistema midiático e o ecossistema inovativo. A interação entre esses ecossistemas se desenha com clareza, à medida que as diferentes ambiências midiáticas desempenham papéis variados e estratégicos na ecologia da inovação. Elas podem, por um lado, ser habilmente adotadas para posicionar a comunicação organizacional, atenta ao fenômeno de midiatização, como campo estratégico de práticas e processos para os ambientes de inovação e criatividade. Por outro lado, não apenas a comunicação, mas as ambiências midiáticas atuam como meios para operacionalizar produtos, processos e serviços inovadores, todos fundamentados em tecnologias interligadas por meio de redes transmidiáticas.porUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Ciências Sociais e HumanasPrograma de Pós-Graduação em ComunicaçãoUFSMBrasilComunicaçãoAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessMarshall McLuhanEcologia da mídiaEcologia da inovaçãoMídia e estratégias comunicacionaisEcossistemas de inovaçãoMedia ecologyInnovation ecologyMedia and communication strategiesInnovation ecosystemsCNPQ::CIENCIAS SOCIAIS APLICADAS::COMUNICACAOEco da comunicação e da inovação na universidade: intersecções entre o ecossistema midiático e o ecossistema inovativoEcho of communication and innovation in the university: intersections between the media ecosystem and the innovative ecosysteminfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisFossá, Maria Ivete Trevisanhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/0718561583412717Ghislen, Taís SteffenelloSilva, Marcela Guimarães eCarvalho, Luciana MenezesBarichello, Eugenia Maria Mariano da Rochahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/9428497716148976Fernandes, Fabio Frá600900000008600600600600600600600beee8d32-5532-4998-a23f-6d902073856696163fd0-ea46-4561-a03d-18b1138b93c54c9c4b56-a6e5-4017-9e18-48e1cb4b9bf8d5824595-81d8-416b-8790-7a5f32a98d1cc95b35f9-e621-4ffe-84c8-f68b67403ff1083341dc-8663-4791-8a80-61f91654f4aareponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações do UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALTES_PPGCOMUNICACAO_2023_FERNANDES_FABIO.pdfTES_PPGCOMUNICACAO_2023_FERNANDES_FABIO.pdfTese de doutoradoapplication/pdf7713807http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/30493/1/TES_PPGCOMUNICACAO_2023_FERNANDES_FABIO.pdff706dafcccf2162f4df99ef09c2f637cMD51LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
