Resumo: This work aims to analyze the evaluative construction of judgement of the president of the republic, in relation to the concepts of social esteem and sanction, and to discuss the heteroglossia and the monoglossia present in an editorial, published on Estadão newspaper. For that, we adopt as theoretical-methodological approach the Appraisal system and its judgement and engagement subsystems (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005). The results indicate the predominance of judgements of social esteem, from which the editorial assesses the president's negative capacity on economic issues. Furthermore, the heteroglossia resource is present contributing to an author-reader relationship of agreement.

Para isso, adotamos como aparato teórico-metodológico o Sistema de Avaliatividade e seus subsistemas: julgamento e engajamento (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005). Os resultados indicam a predominância de julgamentos de estima social, a partir dos quais o editorial avalia a capacidade negativa do presidente acerca de questões econômicas.
