Resumo: | ABSTRACT. There is a long discussion in the literature, which involves several areas of knowledge, regarding the possibilities of delimitation between rural and urban territories; in fact, different countries use different rules for such delimitation. The aim of this article is to discuss some implications of this delimitation in the educational sphere. For this, we present the methodological procedures adopted, based on speculative research; we review the literature, presenting different ways of defining urban and rural territories and, with regard to education, we revise the specific legislation in force for rural education; we continue to present some specific cases of schools and municipalities in order to discuss the implications of these decisions in public policies and pedagogical actions. We conclude by indicating the need to rethink dichotomous and arbitrary strategies for delimiting urban and rural areas and the importance of proposing public policies that take the context into account more broadly. |

El objetivo de este artículo es discutir algunas implicaciones de esta delimitación en el ámbito educativo. Para ello, presentamos los procedimientos metodológicos adoptados, basados en la investigación especulativa; revisamos la literatura, presentando diferentes formas de definir los territorios urbanos y rurales y, en materia de educación, revisamos la legislación específica vigente para la educación rural; seguimos presentando algunos casos específicos de escuelas y municipios con el fin de discutir las implicaciones de estas decisiones en las políticas públicas y acciones pedagógicas. Concluimos señalando la necesidad de repensar estrategias dicotómicas y arbitrarias para delimitar áreas urbanas y rurales y la importancia de proponer políticas públicas que tomen en cuenta el contexto de manera más amplia.ABSTRACT. O objetivo deste artigo está em problematizar algumas implicações dessa delimitação no âmbito educacional. Para isso, apresentamos os procedimentos metodológicos adotados, baseados na pesquisa especulativa; fazemos uma revisão da literatura, mostrando distintos modos de definição de territórios urbanos e rurais e, no que se refere à educação, revisamos a legislação específica vigente para a educação do campo; seguimos apresentando alguns casos específicos de escolas e municípios para, então, problematizarmos as implicações dessas decisões nas políticas públicas e ações pedagógicas. Concluímos indicando a necessidade de repensar estratégias dicotômicas e arbitrárias de delimitação de áreas urbanas e rurais e a importância de proposição de políticas públicas que levem em consideração o contexto de um modo mais amplo.
