Resumo: ABSTRACT. The present article proposes to present a research that deals with Rural Education and has the scope to problematize the social function of the rural school in settlements of agrarian reform, with the contribution of the philosophical principles of education to the Movement of Landless Workers (MLW). The school is located in the Jose Maria settlement, in Abelardo Luz, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The methodological option was a historical-organizational case study, through documentary research. The data were organized and presented in three time periods: from the beginning of the camp to the foundation of the school (1996-1998), the first period of operation, marked by a process of stagnation (1999 to 2005) and the resumption of the school approach with the MLW (2006-2016).   Keywords: School of the Countryside, Social Role, Philosophical Principles, MLW. El presente artículo se propone presentar una investigación que trata de la Educación del Campo y tiene como objetivo problematizar la función social de la escuela del campo en asentamientos de reforma agraria con el aporte de los principios filosóficos de la educación para el Movimiento de los Trabajadores Sin Tierra (MST). La escuela está ubicada en el Asentamiento José María, en Abelardo Luz, Santa Catarina, Brasil. La opción metodológica fue de un estudio de caso histórico-organizacional, a través de la investigación documental. Los datos fueron organizados y presentados en tres períodos temporales: desde el inicio del campamento a la fundación de la escuela (1996-1998), primer período de funcionamiento, marcado por un proceso de estancamiento (1999 a 2005) y la reanudación de la aproximación de la escuela con el programa MST (2006-2016).O presente artigo se propõe a apresentar uma pesquisa que trata da Educação do Campo, cujo escopo consiste em problematizar a função social da escola do campo em assentamentos de reforma agrária, com o aporte dos princípios filosóficos da educação para o Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Terra (MST). Especificamente, analisa como se configura a função social da escola campesina EEB José Maria, localizada no Assentamento José Maria, em Abelardo Luz, Santa Catarina, Brasil. A opção metodológica foi de um estudo de caso histórico-organizacional, através de pesquisa documental. Os dados foram organizados e apresentados em três períodos temporais: do início do acampamento à fundação da escola (1996-1998), primeiro período de funcionamento, marcado por um processo de estagnação (1999 a 2005) e a retomada da aproximação da escola com o MST (2006-2016).
