Resumo: The essay opens a set of questions about the multicultural theme, it uses some literary texts and two exhibitions of visual arts held in 2016, in São Paulo and Florianópolis. The narrative aspect of the multicultural theme is approached based on authors such as Stuart Hall and Edward Said, emphasizing the ways in which the novels, articulated to the essay, speak about the encounters, full of estrangement, between heterogeneities. Based on the artistic images that were visited at the exhibitions and also mentioned on the text, it investigates the estrangements that these provoke. Finally, a “pedagogy of strangeness” is defended in educational practices that wish to be open to others and are provocative of erasures in the apparent identities that is thought to inhabit.   KEYWORDS: Multiculturalism; cultural studies; cultural pedagogies.

Aborda-se, a partir de autores como Stuart Hall e Edward Said, o aspecto narrativo da questão multicultural, salientando os modos como os romances articulados ao ensaio contam a respeito dos encontros, repletos de estranhamentos, entre heterogeneidades. A partir das imagens artísticas visitadas nas exposições e comentadas no texto indaga-se sobre os estranhamentos que elas incitam.
