Resumo: This work aims to understand the approach on indigenous people in newspapers of the Legal Amazon (LA). Inserted in a larger research, the cut here considers the reading of nine printed newspapers – one of each state that composes the LA – during the week of Indigenous Day in 2017. The Content Analysis is our procedure to compose a data panorama that helps to think the question in discursively terms. We believe that the presence of indigenous people in this newspapers is restricted by a series of factors, which is harmful to a more plural and qualified public debate. This is a central problem in LA, the majority territory of indigenous populations in Brazil. Presences and absences require a more in-depth discussion about the importance of journalism in the shared experience and the identitarian/imaginative compositions around indigenous people.

ABSTRACT This work aims to understand the approach on indigenous people in newspapers of the Legal Amazon (LA).
