TRAFFIC AND ANXIETY: Longitudinal study with driving license candidates in south of Brazil

Recently, Traffic Psychology has been interested in studying the process for obtaining drivers’ license. Anxiety has also been the object of research and study in the context of evaluations and tests of this process. This study aimed to investigate the influence of anxiety on the approvals and not approvals of the process for drivers’ license in the Porto Alegre city, Brazil. A sample of 189 first driving license candidates, from 18 to 66 years old (M = 27.25; SD = 10.45, 48.1% female), answered socio-demographic questions and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). The results suggest that the levels of schooling do not influence the approval, as far as the theoretical evidence is concerned. In the practical test, half of the sample was approved on the first try and the remaining candidates varied between two and five attempts for approval.
